Day 28: 9/27/06
As we departed, our mother's 4th graders came down to the Winona levee to see us off and get a 101 in canoeing the Mississippi River. Thanks for your support and interest in our adventure.
Here we pass by Trempealeau Mountain in Perrot State Park in Wisconsin. This mountain is an island in the Mississippi, which was and is a significant holy place for Native Americans.
As we made it to LaCrosse Wisconsin we met up with a few friends. Thanks Ian and Alia for letting us play dress up in your coffee shop. Also thanks to Gabe for surprising us on our island campsite and joining us for a lovely dinner of Mac-n-Cheese-n-Chili.

Hola Jose y Benjamin,
We can only imagine the breath-taking vistas you are taking in on these colorful, warm autumn days. We walked around St. Paul's Como Lake today and thought about you and envied your adventure, again!
You remain in our prayers and thoughts everyday and night.
We know you are keeping up on the Twinkies---yes, the cities are HOT with excitement, buying t-shirts and homer hankies like crazy! Most of us will be tuning in, even while "teaching espaƱol" on Tues. at noon. Johann Santana is the perfect lesson plan, don't ya think? "Clase, repitan "Buena suerte, Sr. Santana." Excelente.
WE LOVE YOU MUCHISIMO!
Tia Luisa y Tio Tomas
Hey Joe,
Hope all is well and you're not missing anesthetizing mice to0 much yet! The pictures are great, nice beards :) I do keep checking the website, hoping to see a picture of you holding up those little vials of river water you said you'd collect :) (Yes, I'm still a big nerd). Have fun through Wisconsin!
