Day 30: 9/29/06
After leaving our sandbar island this morning, we ran into three fellows from Madison and Chicago enjoying an annual river trip. They were very enthusiastic about our trip and photos were taken by both sides. One of the best things about a trip like this is meeting people along the way...even if those people are Chicago Bears fans.
Shortly after making new friends, we happened upon this sign. We have officially put all of MN into the books. Bring on Iowa! Flat Stanley and Madison were excited to be part of this border crossing. Along with a change in bordering states came a change in river features.
Large sloughs and backwater areas away from the main channel became a prominent feature of the river in northeast Iowa. Large areas of water lilies could be seen everywhere.
Doesn't this picture make you want to go immediately to the nearest grocery store and by turkey jerky? ;)

Ben and Joe,
We do believe that this is the first time EVER that Flat Stanley and certainly, Flat Madison, have traveled via canoe on the Mississippi River to the Iowa, WI, MN border. They are having the time of their lives!!! Do they need any calamine lotion or spider repellent? Thanks for letting them join you on this incredible journey!!!
You guys are the greatest!!!
Thanks for sharing your trip with us!!! Some very proud fourth graders and their grateful teacher = ; )
Oh Man. That pic REALLY does make me want to eat turkey Jerkey! Crazy.
