Day 33: 10/2/06

Among the many people we've met thus far, one of the most colorful was Mark, a fellow who bought this sailboat on Ebay and is "sailing" it from St. Paul to St. Louis. He told us he had only been able to actually sail a couple of days and has been relying primarily on a tiny motor. We've crossed paths with Mark a couple of times and hopefully we'll run into him again down the river. It's nice to know we're not the only crazies on the Mississippi.

Since we usually don't have time to rest and charge our electronic equipment along the way, we use a small, flexible "Solar Roll". It has enough solar panels to charge a cell phone in a couple of hours and a laptop in a day.

Arriving in Dubuque, we were pleased to meet with Madelin, a reporter for a local newspaper and Tom, the owner of the most authentic Irish Pub we've been to in the states, "The Busted Lift". Dubuque has very lively downtown and levee neighborhoods along with a rich history that make it a great weekend destination.
