Day 54: 10/29/06

Joe composed this tribute to the dreaded "Vanilla Crisp" PowerBar. It's not our favorite...

PowerBars sustain us on this river trip.
But there is one flavor that forces us to flip.

Peanut butter and chocolate are palatable at best,
But Vanilla Crisp is the subject of this jest.

From your crunchy, rice-filled paste,
to your artificial taste,

We won't miss you one small bit
At the end of this river trip.

We wanted to show you the beautiful bluffs between Grafton and Alton, IL. Yes, we are following the colors south, and no, it has not been warm.

Ben is a blur, setting up camp on top of a massive wing dam on the eve of our entrance into St. Louis. The suspense is killing us! (Actually, the suspense has nothing to do with it. We're hungry for real food and a warm bed!)

Hey Guys,

What great fun! (Reading your blog, that is. Paddling in the cold and win... that's another thing!)

Thanks for the updates. It's been interesting and exciting and all kinds of other fun adjectives following the story of your trip.
