Day 61: 11/6/06
A thick blanket of fog cover the Brothers' campsite this morning. Barge traffic is heavy, just south of Cairo, IL where the Ohio and Mississippi meet. We opted to wait out the fog this morning. While waiting, we heard reports on the radio that the night before, 20 miles upriver on the Ohio, a tow ran into a bridge, losing some of its barges in the process. Even more reason to stay put. No sightings of the wild barges to date...
After the fog burns off, we made our way through a narrow river chute where there were 16 tows within one mile. We used our marine radio A LOT! I think they were more shocked to see us than us them.

!Hola hermanos del rio!
Where are you these days? We got so spoiled by last week's many wonderful entries and are excited to know how you are and how many miles you have traversed and more.
BUT don't worry about the blog if it means that it will slow you down from getting home sooner!
Nothing too new on the homefront. A few of us have colds, flu bugs, exhaustion, but it's all the normal Nov. crud. Bella Beads was successful, though Tia Ana can't retire quite yet. We're sure that your folks have informed you of the nat'l and local elections.=:)Are people talking politics along the river or is there enough with weather, wildlife and barge traffic? Albert Lea had 12 inches of snow yesterday. Most of the Twin Cities just had a few flakes! It's around 35 degrees now.
We pray for sunshine and smooth paddling for you.
We think of you daily, pray for you nightly, and love you always!
Tia Luisa y familia
